Canillo is a traditional Andorran valley town of stone clad buildings set along the valley floor and climbing up the southern slopes. There is no skiing back to Canillo, but a fast 8 person bubble lift rises quickly up to El Form at 2000m. Our hotels in Canillo are both within 150m of the bubble lift as well as being in the centre of the resort. The resort has a number of shops, bars and restaurants as well as a superb leisure centre with swimming pool and ice rink - where not only can you skate but also race go karts with studded tyres on an ice circuit.

Beginners
We love the ski school at Canillo - high up at El Forn and right outside the bubble lift - the nursary slopes are served by a couple of drag tows and a chairlift. The si school is small, still operated by Grandvalira and the instructors excellent. In no time they will be off up the Portella Chairlift and exploring the runs over to El Tarter.
Intermediates
Even though Canillo is at the far end of the lift system it is a great base to explore the whole area. Three chair lifts take you right to the highest point where you can chose which way to go - Pas de la Casa, Soldeu or El Tarter. Just bare in mind the last lift back to the top of Portella for the ski back to the Canillo Bubble lift closes at 16.30.
Advanced and Experts
From the summit drag you can drop directly into the El Tarter Freeride area - a much quicker wake up call than an espresso! Check out our guide to the Grandvalira here. On the way home you have two freeride areas to the right of the Portella Chairlift is steep and knarely while to the left is open snow fields.
