The Skiing

Including nearby Galtuer there are around 240kms of marked piste connected bya  fast efficient system of over 50 lifts - mainly bubbles and chairs. Ischgl links in to Samnaun which is a tax free enclave in Switzerland - don't get carried away though Austria customs offers patrol the mountain and often stop skiers to search rucksacks for newly purchased tax free goods. If you are skiing over to Switzerland please remember to carry your passport or some form of identification!

Beginners

All the ski lessons in Ischgl start up the mountain at Idalp. The nursery slopes are served by a couple of moving carpets, drag twos and two fast detached chairs - the chair detaches fromt eh main cable at both the bottom and top stations to slow right down. Picks you up then launches you up the cable to the top where again is slows right down allowing you to get off easily. Underthe careful eye of the excellent Austrian Ski School beginners will soon progress to exploring the area on on eof the many long wide blue runs. We would recommend that all beginners take one of the bubble lifts down from Idalp at the end of each day - the runs back to Ischgl are red and get quicte busy at the end of the day. 

Intermediates

Ischgl is an intermediates paradise! Wide open reds and blue pistes link the whole area. Start the morning off warming up around Idalp before heading down to Hollbodenand up to Palinkoft. Take red 80 then decide whether to bare right on to 40 and the long red and blue down to Bodenalp - from Boden Alp a shoirt chair accesses the piste down to Ischgl or lifts back towards Hollboden and Idalp. Or bare left and stay on red 80 all the way down the Samnaun for a well earned coffee. a short blue takes you right to the twin massive cable cars from Samnaun back up to Sattel.

Alp Trida is a delightful bowl with long reds and and a blue (60) which heads back down towards Samnaun. 

From Idalp The B1 chair opens up a wonderful run down the Velill, or take B2 and head up and over to Alp Trida.

Advanced

Advanced and expert skiers will revel in the high alitude off pise ares - take the bubble E5 and drop in the Fmba - following the niorth side down to Gampenalp. From Palinkopf wide open snowfields lead down the Samnaun, or head back towards Hollboden and try one of the blacks that lead down to Holkar. The whole area is cross crossed with reds and black - one thing is for sure Ischgl will keep you on your toes!!

Galtuer

Galtuer is at the head of the Paznaum Valley conencted to Ischgl by regular ski bus - the buses leave from the main square opposite the A1 bubble lift out of Ischgl.

Looking at the piste map you would think 'is it worth the effort to go?' but it is! The main bubble rises up out of Galtuer to Faulbruhm. Jump on the 6 man chair  which takes you up towards the dominating Ballunspitze summit. Warm up (?!) on the red 7 back to the base station, then follow the black 66 or the off piste route right back down to Gatuer. 

Head over to the Breitspitz bahn - a 10 man bubble lift that goes up to the highest point at 2450m. From here there are black, off piste and reds which lead back tot eh bubble lift at Kopsee or head back over towards Faulbruhm - if you can ride the drag lifts the the off pise off both Kopseel and Klein Zeinis is delightful - wide open snow fields but don't get carried away otherwise you end up on the walking trail and pushing back to the Klein Zeinis drag!
