Mountain biking in Andorra & the French Alps

Andorra

Welcome to Vallnord mountain biking! The Vallnord bike park is up there with the best. It offers visitors over 1000m of vertical descent, UCI Worldcup downhill and cross-country tracks. There are some superb trails down through the woods as well as freeride paths and tracks which drop down to both La Massana and Arinsal. What's even better is the fact the area is lift served by cable cars and chair lifts giving you more time (and energy!) to enjoy the thrill of downhill.

Lifts operate daily from 1st June - 8th September and then at weekends through to 13th October.

Downhillers and freeriders are spoilt for choice with 2 Worldcup courses which drop down from Pal  to La Massana, as well as an additional 23 way marked downhill tracks varying from easier blue routes through to techy blacks!

If you are in to XC riding, Vallnord is the ultimate playground. Let the lift take the strain and then break off away from the main bike park to explore Col de Montaner, or the old smugglers route to Spain. Take the cable car from Coll de la Botella up to Pic Neigrethen over and down towards Refugi de Comapedosa. There are plenty of opportunities to stop for a drink and some lunch before descending down to Arinsal and free wheeling back through the mountains to La Massana.

There are also designated e-bike tracks - rent a full suspension e-bike and get off the beaten track to explore hidden Andorra!

Mountain Bike Rental

Want to travel light? Don't worry about bringing your own bike, both La Massana and Arinsal have extensive bike rental facilities offering the latest state of the art full suspension flying machines, e-bikes, hard tails along with helmets, knee and arms pads.

Morzine

By far the most popular place to stay. Morzine is a traditional Alpine town that turns into a mountain biking Mecca in the summer. There are plenty of non-mountain bike activities including the swimming complex, golf course or the lake at Montriod for a refreshing dip!

Les Gets

Les Gets is a beautiful resort situated on a col 200m above Morzine. A little more family orientated, Les Gets also has a gorgeous swimming lake with a slide so it’s perfect for an outdoor adventure family holiday.

Champéry

Nestled under the Dents du Midi, Champéry is a picture-perfect Swiss Alpine village – traditional old wooden buildings, steeply pinched roofs, and truly stunning scenery. A huge cable car runs up to the mountain above Les Cosets for easy access the trails.

France Mountain Biking

The Portes du Soleil – Morzine, Les Gets, Chatel and Champéry – is considered to be the spiritual home of mountain biking. Even back in the day when bikes were heavy, rigid, had v-brakes and front suspension was a luxury, mountain biking here was phenomenal in the summer. Following a huge rise in popularity, chairlifts and cables cars were installed in the late 1980s. Since then, millions of euros have been invested into what is now one of the best mountain biking experiences for all types of riders in the Alps.

Now there are over 600kms of lift access mountain bike trails to explore. Downhillers revel on The Pleney in Morzine, tackling jumps and berms on the black down to the village. Mont Chery above Les Gets has hosted a few rounds of the UCI World Cup downhill – while over on the Swiss Side the UCI World Cup run down to Champéry is ferocious. From the top of Mossette, downhillers can drop over 1400 vertical meters back down to Champéry without barely pushing their pedals!

For us, the area is all about exploring. The lifts enable you to gain height so you can pedal a little, and push yourself on the odd climb to explore even more of the area. The trails are fabulous for taking in Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Chatel, Morgins and Champéry.

Col du Cou is another favourite – after a lung busting climb up the switch backs from the Swiss side, either drop down to Champéry right underneath the Dents du Midi or back to Morzine via Vallee de la Manche.
