Family skiing
Very few things can beat the enjoyment of a skiing holiday with family. Waking up early with the little ones on the first morning, seeing fresh powder over the mountains, blue skies and not a cloud in sight - heaven! There is so much excitement to be had on a family ski holiday. The first lift experience, sharing ski school stories over a hot chocolate in the mountains, making memories and selfies on the slopes. Get it right and a family ski holiday can be the best thing in the world!
Before you hit the slopes with the little ones, there are plenty of things to consider and we're here to help make your trip a great one. We've got top tips, family friendly skiing destination suggestions and everything else to take the stress away and make sure you enjoy every minute as a family. We offer all ski extras including equipment, additional activities and anything else you need so that you can sit back, relax and hit the slopes!
We are passionate about what we do, because we love doing it! Most winters we are lucky enough to have four generations of our family all skiing together, from 8 to 80 years olds (the kids still can't get over Grandpa beating them down run 1 in
Trysil!). We are always careful to pick a resort that we know will be enjoyed by everyone, from the racers to the leisurely skiiers. We have dragged our kids all over the Alps and across Europe (and made all the mistakes so you don't have to!) to find the best skiing destinations for families.
Top tip: don't take little ones to an expensive, larger resort as you probably won't get to make full use of your ski pass! Instead opt for a smaller ski area with great ski schools and ski-in, ski-out accommodation so it's easy to take a break and go back out again - no one wants tired little ones on the slopes!
Start at the beginning
When looking at family friendly ski resorts, there are a few key points to bear in mind:
-
Ski schools - a few morning lessons will give kids the confidence to try longer runs, you'll be skiing as a family in no time!
-
Access to accommodation - it's amazing how a cold, tired little one can be rejuvinated by whizzing back to the accommodation for a hot chocolate and a sit down!
-
Flight and transfer time - we tend to opt for resorts that have a shorter flight and transfer time
-
Resort set up - sign posted resorts where most runs lead back to the same area are ideal
Our top recommendations for family friendly ski resorts:
Norway - Geilo & Trysil
Andorra - Arinsal, La Massana, Soldeu & El Tarter
France - Avoriaz, Le Clusaz, Flaine
