Evasion Mont Blanc is the name given to the ski area that encompasses Megeve, St Gervais and Les Contamines. With over 400kms of marked piste and 110 lifts the Evasion Mont Blanc is France's fourth largest ski area. We'll let you into a secret as well - it's the ski area Chamonix guides come to play on their day off!

St Gervais is a beeautiful resort - indeed it is France's only alpine spa resort. Bubble lifts rise out of the village to link in to the Megeve Ski Area while a rack and pinion railway winds its way up towards the top of the Les Houches ski area (NB not included within the Evasion Mont Blanc ski pass). Megeve is a swankey upmarket resort with a beautiful traffic free centre. Les Contaimines lies right underneath Mont Blanc is a smaller linear resort but with wonderful skiing. Les Contamines is also twinned with Beaumaris where we operate our boat trips from!

The ski area is conveniently located just 1 hour from Geneva Airport and there is a railway station in le Fayet which is just 10 minutes from St Gervais

The Skiing

St Gervais forms part of France’s 4th largest Alpine ski area (we also have chalets in France’s largest – Morzine and the Portes du Soleil and France’s second largest – Les Menuires and the 3 Vallees); 107 ski lifts connect 445kms of piste and three main resorts St Gervais, Megeve and Les Contamines. You can also ski at Les Houches by taking the Mont Blanc Tramway directly from the centre of the village. The whole ski area is relatively uncrowded and queues even in the height of the season are extremely rare. The skiing is fabulous – which is probably why it is the ski area of choice for many Chamonix high mountain guides on their day off!

The ski day begins by taking the gondola from just outside the village (served by free ski bus and our own minibus shuttle service) which climbs upto Bettex – stunning views from the gondola over the Mont Blanc massive beats any caffeine jolt to wake you up in the morning!

Beginners

There are ski schools in all the villages. The ESF have specially designed beginners and childrens area with it’s own covered ‘magic carpet’! After a day or so beginners will soon venture further up the mountain tackling some of the glorious green and blue runs that meander down through the forest. By day 4 or 5 most beginners will be able to make their way over to Megeve and back – a real achievement

Intermediates

The Evasion Mont Blanc is a real intermediates playground – long cruising blues and reds soon rack up the miles of piste. The slopes are all beautifully prepared – after all the area does include France’s original chic resort of Megeve! From Bettex either ski down the blue to the new fast 6 man chair lift  -  Mont’s Rosset (great coffee stop by the chairlift!) or take the gondola up to the Col. Mont Joly is the higherst point and has a testing red run down (Chevreuil) – the new chairlift that will link in Les Contamines will start from here. The Alpette area has some delightful runs that criss cross the mountainside. Make the effore to cross Megeve and ski around Combloux, Cordon and over to Giettaz.

Your ski pass also covers Les Contamines – a true alpine Gem. Just a few minutes by minibus (we run a free shuttle from the chalet), Les Contamines is somewhere you should spend at least a day exploring.

You also have the option of skiing in Les Houches – where the Chamonix World Cup downhill takes place each January – take the rack and pinion railway from the centre of St Gervais to Bellevue to access some of Chamonix’s fine skiing!

Advanced

Evasion Mont Blanc is an area that doesn’t really appear on many advanced skiers radar – maybe it’s because the area is so close to the mecca of Chamonix that it becomes overlooked. However there must be a reason why the Chamonix Mountain Guides ski here rather than Chamonix on their days off…. The area is fabulous – miles of piste, different areas to explore and also fresh tracks to be had many days after a snowfall (while Chamonix is tracked out by mid –day!) Mont Joly has some of the steepest skiing around – the black Chamois is not to be taken with a pinch of salt, while the off piste here really is steep and deep! Take some time to explore Alpette – there is some great fall-line treelined skiing here. Head across Megeve to Jaillet and explore the lesser known Combloux and Giettaz.

On the piste map Les Contamines looks relatively small – be prepared to be surprised – great snow, long runs, empty pistes, acres of off piste make Contamines a superb day or couple of days – to the right - Veleray is black and steep. Ease over to Col du Joly and cruise down to Hauteluc – a stone’s throw from Albertville.

Les Houches is another possibility – skiing right under the Mont Blanc massive. Emulate the current breed of World Cup downhillers by tackling the Chamonix downhill course – The Kandahar – you’ll realise pretty soon that those racers are either nuts or have nerves of steel.
