Hemsedal

Hemsedal is one of Norway’s most established ski resorts – surrounded by jagged peaks they often refer to Hemsedal as the Scandinavian Alps! Hemsedal has grown and expanded considerably (since I learnt to ski there way back in the early 1970s!) into one of Norway’s best ski areas.

The Skiing

Lifts rise out of the base station spanning out to three peaks. There are 20 lifts which open up 53 pistes – from greens, blues, reds and a few particularly vicious blacks.

Beginners after a couple of days with the wonderful Hemsedal Ski School will have no problem exploring two of the three peaks – Tinden and Totten – on wide open green runs. Intermediate skiers will soon be ripping up the fast flowing blues and reds and even tackling blacks 8 and 9.

 

For advanced skiers while the piste map looks a little limiting there are a handful of steep blacks – one is open for evening skiing, but there are plenty of opportunities for off piste and ski touring.

But don't forget Solheisen - included within the ski pass, Solheisen is 12kms from Hemsedal and well worth a day or even an afternoon.

Children

Hemsedal has one of the largest children's areas - with beginner lifts, play areas and a great ski school to encourage them to learn to ski through playing.

Getting to Hemsedal

Hemsedal is served by a regular transfer coach from Oslo and Oslo Airport. It is possible to take the train from either Oslo Airport or Bergen (shuttle from Bergen Airport to Bergen Station) to Gol - Gol is 10 miles from Hemsedal by bus or taxi. 

If you book a hire car then the drive from both Oslo and Bergen Airport is straight forward. We provide detailed dirving directions and all hire cars come equipped with winter tyres and snow chains
