Cairngorm

The Cairngorm Mountain ski area is situated right in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park. Aviemore just off the A9 main road is just 10 miles from the base station.

Aviemore offers plenty of varied accommodation and is also served by a direct rail link from both London Euston and Inverness (allowing you to fly up to Inverness and take the train to Aviemore) if  you don't want to drive. There is a regular bus from Aviemore to the Caringorm base station that runs when the ski area is open (bus route 31)

The Skiing

The skiing at Cairgorm is spread between two valleys on the Cairngorm Mountain - Coire Cas which is the main area and to the left Coire Na Ciste.

From the base station there are three lifts up - 2 poma drag tows and a T bar. The funicular railway also departs from the base station but at the moment this is closed and only scheduled to re-open for the 2021/22 winter season and a £16million repair and refurbishment programme. The Day Lodge Poma tow provides quick access over to Coire Na Ciste by taking the 'Over Yonder' red from the top. Or return back to the base station on the Day Lodge Piste.

Both the Car Park T bar and Fiacaill Ridge Poma access the mid area of Coire Cas with green and blue runs back to the base station or take the Coire Cas T Bar higher up to open up longer blues and greens. From here you can jump on the M1 poma which opens up the famous 'White Lady' red run.

From the top of the M1 Poma lft there are some easy green runs almost at the summit of Cairngorm in and area called Ptarmigan - the UK's highest cafe is here as well. Baring left the M2 blue follows the ridge between Coire Cas and Coire Na Ciste back down to the base station. Reds off to the right of M2 fall down into Coire Na Ciste.

Coire Na Ciste offers adventurous intermediates and advanced skiers some challenging reds and blacks. In good condition the West wall is about as steep as it gets while the east wall decending into the No 2 Gully makes for an interesting descent popping out right by the West Wall Poma - Scotland's longest lift!
