Salen - Sweden's Largest Ski Area

Situated along the Route 66 (!) Salen is the largest Wintersports area in Sweden. 4 ski areas offering over 180kms of skiing connected by 130 lifts.

Getting to Salen

Salen offers one of the shortest sirport transfers in the World! Fliy in to the Scandinavian Mountain Airport Salen  Trysil and Salen is just 10 minutes away. Oslo Gardemoen airport is just under 2 hours from Salen while Stockholm is a 4 to 5 hour drive. To make the most of the ski area we recommend a hire car

The Skiing

Salen is made up of 4 skis areas, Klappen, Lindvallen and Hogflallet, Tandadalen and Hundfjallet adn closest to the Swedish Norwegian border the fourth area is Stoten.

Klappen is situated to the south of Salen - the first ski area as you drive up the Route 66 from Stockholm. There are around 40kms of pistes from beautiful green nursery slopes through to some demanding blacks. The area is served by a good network of 21 lifts - mainly drag tows but there is also a gondula cable car and 2 quad chairs. Check out the piste map  below

The next two ski areas Lindvallen and Tandadalen are controlled by SkiStar who also own the Trysoil ski area. Lindvallen offers a mix of blacks, reds, blues and easier green runs across the Hemfjallet. For beginners and children this area offers the most exploring with green slopes opening up the back side of the mountain and the delightful Hogfjallet 

Tandadalen adn Hundfjallet and two mountains connene cted by two flat drag tows across the valley floor. Tandadalen has 7 blacks, 5 reds and 10 blue pistes that all drop down from the summit ridge back to the valley floor.There are 2 green runs that work their respective ways down through the woods while at either end of the mountain there are two great nursery / teaching areas. Tandadalen also has a Super Park and Big Air Arena.

Taking the the two drag tows across the valley floor to Hundfjallet is a journey in its self! The first chairlift goes right up to the summit. off to the left are some quiet serious black runs which drop back down to the flat tow across the valley floor. Off to the right from the top of the chair a seris of red, blue and green runs wind down throught to woods to lifts that open up Trollback as well to the valley floor. Trollback has mainly red runs with a couple of green runs which meander down through the trees.

Stoten 

Stoten is the fourth ski area of Salen and situated closest to the Norwegian border. The area boasts of having the largest vertical drop out of the 4 resorts at 370m with 45kms of marked pistes linkied by 2 express 6 man chairlifts and 17 drag tows.

The ski area can almost be split in 2. The left hand area Soltorget offer plenty of blue and green runs and is the perfect area to learn to ski. The nursary slopes are located around the base station. Once beginners have built up their confidence and technique they will revel in exploring the greeb and blue pistes that wind down the mountain throught he tress fromt he top of the Vargy Express 6 man chairlit.

Heading to the right and up the WC Express 6 man chairlift from Stotentoget there are a seris of red and black runs which drop back down tot he base station as well as to Skidtorget that will test even the most advanced skiers. 

Virtually all the accommodation in Stoten offers ski in ski out convenience.
