Learn to ski
Beginner Ski and Snowboard Holidays
There aren't many things more fun than learning to ski! Our guides give you all the information you need before you hit the slopes. Where and when to go, what to take, how to get there and more.
When you haven't been before or are a beginner, booking a ski trip can feel a bit like a minefield! Which resort, what to take, when to go are all questions that need answering. We're here to help! We've been skiing for decades all over Europe and beyond and know the best spots to visit whatever your ability.
We always recommend lessons if you're a novice skiier. Even a few hours a day for the first week will give you the cofidence you need to start exploring the whole resort without the aide of an instructor. We work with the most prestigious ski schools to ensure you'll have a fun and informative time, and most importantly get the best out of your holiday.
We know you'll have a fantastic time wherever you go but proper and careful planning depending on your ability will ensure you enjoy every last second. When booking your first ski holiday for example, we would advise against booking big name resorts for your first ski holiday. You'll be paying high prices and it's unlikely you'll be able to make full use of your lift pass to fully explore the resort. Go to smaller resorts and check out the ski school. Arinsal in Andorra is one of our most recommended learn to ski resorts with a renowned British-run ski school.
Ski Schools
English speaking instructors are a must. Some ski schools have British Instructors, and while Britain is not an Alpine nation we do have some of the best ski instructors in the world! We recommend booking lessons in the morning. Ideally, you'll start around 10am and have 2-3 hours with an instructor. This allows plenty of time to get up to the ski school meeting point in the morning and time to do your own thing in the afternoon. The perfect way to relax after a morning lesson is lunch in a mountain restaurant! Enjoy the views while you eat tartiflette and drink hot chooclate before practicing what you have learnt in your lesson on the gentler slopes back down to the resort.
Ski kit and what to take!
You rent your skis, ski boots, helmets and poles (or snowboard and boots) in the resort. We recommend that you buy a good warm and fully waterproof jacket. Don't be afraid to pay more on the expensive side, you can't put a price on being warm and comfortable while on the slopes! Some lined and water proof sallopettes (ski pants), decent set of gloves, a hat, thermal underwear, perhaps a fleece top, ski socks – you can buy most of this at supermarkets and discount shops (eg TKmaxx, Sports Direct). You will also need a good set of goggles and sunglasses please don’t skimp on these – Ski goggles range in price from few pounds to over £250 (!) but a set around £30 will be perfect. Look for ventilation, double lens for anti fogging an a wide adjustable strap.
