Sitting in a high valley right up by the Swiss border and just over the hills from St Moritz, Livigno deserves a better recognition. Most the slopes are well over 2000m and backed up by a comprehensive snowmaking system. The best suit intermediate skiers, but advanced skiers will also enjoy the freeride options. Here lies the GB Park&Pipe event with Livigno’s snow park, with some crazy features many athletes choose it as their training base for much of the winter. 

The west side of the valley is home to three excellent beginner zones, located on the sunny and gentle slopes on the edge of town. Progression from here is then very good, particularly at Costaccia and across the valley under the new chair at Mottolino. Long, open reds then dominate the rest of the piste map – particularly around Mt Sponda and the high point of the resort at Carosello 3000.

Away from the mountain, Livigno is home to one of the best networks of cross country skiing trails In the Italian Alps – there are 30km in total, 5km of which are fully covered with snowmaking. There are some great fat biking trails in the open valley and for bad weather days, the Aquagranda swimming pool complex is a great place to visit. The season starts from the beginning of December and runs out till the start of May.

In town, prices are lower than many other major resorts(the resort is tax fee). But you don’t compromise on quality, much of the accommodation is of a high standard, the food is excellent, and there are some good bars with great après that become lively on a sunny afternoon, fuelled by very, very affordable drinks. 

The only downfall to Livigno is the transfer it is very long. But we think it’s definitely worth the drive!
